Butterflies, Trust and You

November 5, 2015

This is one of my favorite times of year. Not because pumpkin spiced latte sipping and Ugg boot wearing weather is upon us, but because of what I see every

time I look out the window or leave my house – monarch butterflies.

If you live in Texas you’ve probably noticed all the monarch butterflies fluttering by. For over a month now they’ve been everywhere.

It’s amazing how these tiny, paper-thin winged creatures set on a mission that’s been passed on to them for generations. These beauties migrate from the southern United States to central Mexico (over 4,800 miles) year after year.  And what’s even more spectacular is it takes about 5 life cycles to make it happen.

This isn’t a science lesson, but I do think we can learn a lot from the simple way nature takes on life.

This divine intelligence that motivates and guides the butterfly is within us too. It’s the guiding force that when we listen to it coincidences happen and what seems like magic unfolds in our lives. Being in the right place at the right time, receiving what we need exactly when we need it, meeting the right person at the right time… we’ve all experienced these things, these miracles, that surprise us and enhance our lives.

When we remain open and available these nudges have a way in. Like the butterfly, we can hear what turn is next and be guided to our next step. It’s when we close down and get bogged down with comparison, worry or any other ego diversion that we feel lost.

The beasts and the butterflies don’t spend a lot of time, okay they don’t spend any time, worrying, living in the past, or feeling unworthy.  Granted, they also don’t spend anytime sipping lattes, wearing boots, or enjoying the countless other things we get to enjoy, but that’s beside the point. With their limited consciousness they do hold on to what’s important – their purpose.

The new mama hormones I’m experiencing are probably to blame for this post, as my life has slowed way down and I’m really dialed in to instinct, but its reminding me that when we get all the other stuff out of the way we can really listen to what matters, that innate guiding force within us all. Things become clear when we block out the noise of the ego and what’s right for us rings clearer than a church bell at noon on Sunday.

But feeling what’s right isn’t enough. We have to trust it. When we add trust to the recipe we can follow through on what we feel is our next step.

Trust that what feels right for you regardless of the direction the people around you are going. Trust that you’re next step may not make sense now but if it feels right, then it is. Trust that the person who knows what’s best for you is and always will be you. Trust that your inner guidance system is keeping you on a path that is uniquely yours, and while it may seem lonely at times, you’re exactly where you need to be.  Trust that no one experiences life like you do and therefore can’t tell you what’s best for you. Trust that there are no mistakes, only lessons to learn from. Trust that if you weren’t meant to rely on yourself, you wouldn’t have been given the faculties to do so. Trust that no one is better than you. Trust that you do you best, end of story.

All of this can be easier said than done, which is why I believe life gives us chances everyday. There is no expiration date on tuning in to who we are. Our inner guidance system is always ready and waiting.

Get quite, listen, trust and soar. You have beautiful wings.

Love,
